Our Vivienne Westwood

Our Vivienne Westwood is a love letter from Tokyo street culture to one of fashion’s most unruly visionaries. Published at the height of Japan’s obsession with Vivienne Westwood, this 1997 special issue of local fashion magazine Zipper captures how her anarchic British punk ethos was absorbed, reinterpreted, and fiercely personalised by Japanese youth. Rooted in the magazine's usual documentation of street style, this issue moves beyond the runway into lived-in devotion, gathering shop staff, students, and scene regulars wearing Westwood not as costume but as everyday armour. Tartans clash and political slogans are worn with playful sincerity in this snapshot of a moment when Harajuku style was less about trends and more about allegiance.
