Born in Osaka in 1964, Masayuki Yoshinaga came to photography from the margins. His work has long focused on Japan’s outsiders: biker gangs, youth tribes, club kids, punks and other communities existing beyond the mainstream. Part fashion archive, part social document, Hair Style Tokyo preserves a lost era of Japanese youth culture with intimacy and energy. From extreme colours and sculptural shapes to subcultural codes and personal rituals, these images reveal hair as a language of rebellion, belonging, and transformation.
